Coordinated Droop Control and Adaptive Model Predictive Control for Enhancing HVRT and Post-Event Recovery of Large-Scale Wind Farm

The wind turbine (WT) terminal overvoltage during grid voltage swell events may result in tripping the WT and consequently threaten secure operation of large-scale farms (WFs). In this paper, an optimal coordination droop control adaptive model predictive (MPC) scheme is proposed to enhance high-voltage ride-through (HVRT) post-event recovery WFs. During HVRT, reactive power reference generated each controller by following coefficient realize a fast reduction at terminal. coefficients are pre-calculated taking WF collection system topology magnitude into consideration. At stage, MPC-based improve dynamic restoration performance. controllers optimized based on sensitivity magnitude. With scheme, all can be maintained within their feasible range response time significantly shortened. validated tested under various operating scenarios.
